According to Hammond Police spokesman Lt. Steve Kellogg, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 3:30 a.m. at a residence in the 2300 block of New York Avenue. Upon their arrival, they discovered Gills had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
