In a major step toward strengthening public safety, DeKalb County has allocated $100,000 to expand police patrols across District 1, focusing on both residential neighborhoods and commercial zones. The initiative, launched in partnership with the Tucker-Northlake Community Improvement District (CID), aims to deter crime and improve the quality of life for local residents and business owners.

What the Safety Initiative Involves
The funding will significantly expand off-duty police patrols, building on the existing efforts already funded by the CID. Patrol coverage will now include the following communities:
- Tucker-Northlake CID
- Embry Hills
- Evansdale
- Fleetwood Hills
- North Briarcliff
- Northcrest
- Northlake
- Pleasantdale
- Silvastone Woods
The expanded patrols are being launched in response to growing concerns about crime, especially in commercial areas where disturbances and property crimes have increased.
Local Leadership Speaks Out
Commissioner Robert Patrick, who represents District 1, emphasized the importance of visible law enforcement:
“A strong and visible law enforcement presence helps prevent criminal activity and sends a clear message that these are communities where crime is not welcome.”
Patrick noted that the new funding—approved last year by the CID board—more than doubles the area’s existing patrol coverage.
Matthew Lee, Executive Director of Tucker-Northlake CID, also highlighted the collaboration:
“This partnership shows our ongoing commitment to supporting DeKalb County Police. Public safety is a shared responsibility that benefits us all.”
Ongoing Public Safety Efforts Since 2018
Since 2018, the Tucker-Northlake CID has funded off-duty DeKalb County police officers to patrol the district. With crime rates typically rising during the summer months, this expanded effort comes at a critical time.
The initiative will also include:
- Increased distribution of safety information to the public
- Encouragement for residents to report crime and suspicious behavior
- Weekly activity reports submitted to the CID and Commissioner Patrick’s office for transparency and accountability
Conclusion: A United Front for a Safer Community
This new $100,000 investment underscores DeKalb County’s commitment to proactive public safety measures. Through collaboration with the Tucker-Northlake CID, local leaders are working to ensure that District 1 remains a safe and thriving community for both families and businesses.
As public concern over crime grows, initiatives like this serve as a model for how government and community organizations can partner to deliver meaningful, results-driven change.
