The Sandy, Utah community mourns the sudden passing of Zachary Giles Wright, age 26, who died on Monday, May 26, 2025, after complications from a recent diagnosis of Burkitt lymphoma. Though his time was short, Zach’s life was filled with adventure, love, and laughter. His bright spirit, infectious humor, and generosity touched the hearts of family, friends, colleagues, and many more.
Early Life and Family
Zach was born January 22, 1999, in Murray, Utah, to Jeremy and Jennifer Wright. As the eldest of six siblings—Bahn, Anna, Griffin, Jane, Lincoln, and Talmes—he embraced the role of protective big brother with pride and warmth.
From an early age, Zach showed a curious mind and gentle leadership. His bond with his childhood dog, Max, reflected his deep capacity for love and connection—a trait he carried throughout his life.
Passion for the Outdoors and Leadership
Zach’s love for the outdoors defined much of his life. As a child, he hiked iconic natural landmarks like Yosemite’s Half Dome and Utah’s Delicate Arch. Fearless on his bike, he often explored trails others hesitated to try.
In 2013, Zach became an Eagle Scout, showcasing his commitment, discipline, and leadership. This spirit carried into his career as a whitewater rafting guide, ski patrolman, and avalanche mitigation specialist. Zach’s focus was always on safety, fun, and building meaningful experiences for others.
Mission Service and Personal Values
From 2017 to 2019, Zach served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Oaxaca, Mexico. His mission was marked by humor, honesty, and deep faith. Zach’s dedication to serving others highlighted his compassionate and humble nature.
Entrepreneurial Spirit and Marriage
Known for his ingenuity, Zach applied his problem-solving skills to ventures like car restoration and solar panel sales. His business pursuits took him to California, where he met Annie Samarhaj. The couple married on September 15, 2023, at the Bountiful Temple and later settled in Star Valley, Wyoming, building a home filled with love and laughter.
Creativity, Friendship, and Legacy
Zach’s wide circle of friends spanned ages and backgrounds, a testament to his ability to connect with and value others. Known for his infectious smile and quick wit, Zach brightened lives with pranks, jokes, and heartfelt stories.
A talented musician and artist, he played guitar and piano, crafted pottery, and captured life’s moments through photography. Zach’s creativity was another way he expressed his vibrant spirit.
Survived By
Zach is survived by his beloved wife, Annie; parents Jeremy and Jennifer; siblings Bahn, Anna (Max), Griffin, Jane, Lincoln, and Talmes; grandfather Dadi; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and his loyal dog, Fridge. He was preceded in death by cousin Christine Wright.
