Kay Arthur was born on November 11, 1933, in Jackson, Michigan. After graduating from nursing school in 1955, she married Frank Thomas Goetz, Jr., with whom she had two sons. Following their divorce in 1961, Kay underwent a profound spiritual renewal in 1963, which inspired her to study theology at Tennessee Temple University.
It was at Tennessee Temple that she met Jack Arthur, a missionary she married in 1965. Together, they served in Mexico before health concerns led them back to the United States.
Founding of Precept Ministries International
In 1970, Kay and Jack Arthur founded Reach Out Ranch, later renamed Precept Ministries International, based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. What began as a small Bible study in their living room grew into a global ministry focused on the Inductive Bible Study method—a unique approach encouraging believers to engage personally and deeply with Scripture.
