Born on June 14, 1962, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Larry Sparks Jr. was a proud son of the South. Raised by his parents, Larry Sparks Sr. and the late Margaret (Sparks) Wilkins, Larry learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and compassion from an early age.
A graduate of Tuscaloosa High School, Larry excelled both academically and athletically, participating in football and track. However, his true passion lay in serving others, a calling he pursued throughout his life.
Professional Success and Dedication to Service
Larry earned a degree in business from the University of Alabama, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. After graduation, he returned to his hometown to build a successful career as an entrepreneur.
Over three decades, Larry managed a respected local business that provided services to the Tuscaloosa community and created employment opportunities for residents. His integrity and professionalism made him a trusted figure in the business world.
Larry’s commitment to Tuscaloosa extended beyond his career. He was actively involved in the Tuscaloosa Chamber of Commerce and various community initiatives, always seeking ways to improve the lives of others.
A Devoted Husband and Loving Father
Larry’s greatest pride was his family. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Ann Sparks, and together they raised three children: Jessica, Andrew, and Sarah. Larry was a devoted father who took immense pride in his children’s achievements and instilled in them the values of loyalty, hard work, and compassion.
As a grandfather, Larry’s love extended to his grandchildren, Emily, Lily, and Jackson, who cherished their time with him. Whether coaching sports, attending school events, or sharing his wisdom, Larry was always there to support his family.

A lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa, Larry’s faith was a guiding force in his life. He served in various capacities, including as a deacon, and believed in living a life rooted in love, service, and community.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann; his children, Jessica (Matthew) Owens, Andrew, and Sarah; his grandchildren, Emily, Lily, and Jackson; his father, Larry Sparks Sr.; his siblings, Jennifer (Brian) Mitchell and Steven (Rachel) Sparks; and numerous extended family members and friends.
A celebration of Larry’s life will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Tuscaloosa Youth Foundation in Larry’s honor, ensuring his legacy of service continues.
